UNSPOKEN
I don’t remember the first time
I saw you,
only that I did,
I couldn’t stop.
I giggled softly
when I caught you looking.
But I pretended
not to care.
I laughed a little louder,
walked a little slower,
hoping you’d notice.
You never said a word.
Neither did I.
But there was something
about the way you looked at me
like we both knew.
I told no one.
Not even myself.
Because what was there to tell?
We hadn’t spoken.
Not once.
And one day
I left without telling you.
There wasn’t much to say.
But for days after,
I kept turning corners
expecting to find you.
You stayed.
I disappeared.
And with me,
went the quiet thing
we never named.
Your memory
will fade in mine.
Just like mine
will blur in yours.
And we’ll stay
unspoken.
Forever.
