DROOLING, BOTH OF US
It’s been a while
since we started dating.
By now,
the butterflies have settled.
The jitters have faded.
We no longer blush
at the sight of each other.
No more secret hand-holding,
no lingering, electric touches.
The racing hearts
have calmed.
We’ve seen the ugly phases
and the uglier faces.
The unfiltered versions.
Our likes and dislikes
laid bare.
Arguments one after another,
stacking up.
We’ve lost our tempers.
Said too much, said too little.
Have you ever thought
of giving up on me—
even for a fleeting second?
You might have.
Yet here I am,
sitting still beside you.
Watching you sleep.
Drooling—
both of us.
You,
lost in dreams of me.
Me,
awake,
watching you dream of me.
Drooling.
Both of us.
